amplifying success in systems change for our people and our planet

inspiration & resource for curious minds & determined social changemakers

By Miranda Daniels

Generate By Design is an entity dedicated to exploring what makes systems change work and how we can apply those success factors to address the complex social problems our world faces.

It celebrates the champions of social change who work to change a system for the better; the systemschangers, the changemakers, the collaborators and the initiatives tirelessly working hard to effect positive and lasting change for healthier people on a healthier planet.

Importantly, Generate By Design helps build the case for why ALL social change initiatives need to work with systemic change in mind, in order to create substantial shifts.

So, this space is for ANYONE working to achieve a paradigm shift to address poverty, injustice, inequality, to protect our Indigenous peoples, our environment and maintain cultures, and protect human rights.

This space is for ANYONE who understands that the systems that problematic social problems operate within are generally complex and not black and white. And that there are no quick fixes to finding solutions.

Generate By Design was initially the brand for my first communications consultancy practice servicing social purpose initiatives across remote Australia.

Based in Alice Springs, I established Generate By Design in 2012 to provide strategic communications services to assist initiatives to design better communications messaging, in order to generate the resources they needed to achieve their outcomes and make lasting impact.

During my seven year stint in Alice Springs, I became fascinated with systems reform models and systems change models and how these models improve the likelihood of achieving social change.

I worked on a number of systems change initiatives including an initiative to reform the way governments govern in remote Australia and a collective impact initiative to reform the Northern Territory prison system to eliminate recidivism move the system away from warehousing Indigenous people to providing real rehabilitative pathways.

In 2015, I returned to Melbourne and while I continued working more broadly as a communications strategist for design agencies, not-for-profits and corporates, I realised that my passion lies with exploring how people can collaborate more effectively to reform and improve systems that aren't working.

In 2018, I took the leap to re-envision Generate By Design as a resource that people who share this passion, can use at whatever stage of their systems change journey.

I welcome contributions to the blog and hope you will get in touch if you are a change maker or systems change expert and would like to be featured!
